Policy & Practice Development
Policy & Practice Development

Much of Children in Wales’ work involves promoting policy and practice development. We carry out a whole spectrum of activities promoting policy and practice development across a range of areas.

Our Publications

  • Working Towards a Child Safety Strategy, April 2009 - Children in Wales is leading the development of the Child Safety Strategy for Wales, which aims to prevent deaths and reduce unintentional injuries in children and young people.
  • Child Poverty and Social Exclusion in Rural Wales - This report, published in October 2009, highlights a number of ways in which children and young people who live in low-income or benefit households in rural Wales are being excluded from services that are available to their contemporaries living in urban areas.
  • Including Fathers in Early Years Services: Positive Practice for Professionals. This booklet was launched by Children in Wales in October 2008 and provides a range of advice to help early years services include fathers in their services.
  • Families not Areas Suffer Rural Disadvantage, April 2008. This report was the result of research considering the problems that rural families face and effective ways of delivering services to them. It highlights some of the key issues disadvantaging families in rural Wales. These include problems accessing transport, a lack of services and leisure opportunities and a lack of affordable housing.
  • Help at Hand, Autumn 2007 - Children in Wales in partnership with the Welsh Assembly Government and members of the Children are Unbeatable Alliance published a booklet to promote alternatives to physical punishment in Autumn 2007. The booklet, Help at Hand, has subsequently been given out by health visitors and Children’s Information Services to all new parents in Wales. It encourages parents to use non-violent methods to discipline their children and encourage good behaviour.
  • A Wales Fit for Children and Young People launched, May 2007 - Children in Wales launched A Wales Fit for Children and Young People in May 2007. The document challenged politicians to address the overarching issues that our members believe require attention, in order to improve the lives of children and young people living in Wales. The launch coincided with the third elections to the National Assembly for Wales.
