Schools Census, 2010: Final Results, 29/06/10 [W]

The latest National Statistics on the Annual Schools Census produced by the Welsh Assembly Government.

The key points from the latest release (compared to January 2009) are:

20 less local authority (LA) maintained schools and 2,500 fewer pupils;
4 more independent schools;
275 less teachers (full time equivalent) in the LA maintained sector;
1,316 additional support staff (the majority recruited in foundation phase settings);
pupil-teacher ratio is 17.6 (up from 17.5 in 2009).

In 2010, data on ethnic background and national identity showed that:

almost 92 per cent of pupils aged 5+ consider themselves to be of white ethnic background.
