Budgeted Expenditure on Special Educational Needs (SEN) Provision, 2010-11, 15/06/10 [W]

The latest National Statistics on Budgeted expenditure on Special Educational Needs (SEN) Provision 2010-11 produced by the Welsh Assembly Government.

The key points from the latest release are:

  • Total expenditure on SEN provision is budgeted to be £342 million.
  • Isle of Anglesey has the largest SEN budget per pupil at £990, whilst the Vale of Glamorgan has the smallest SEN budget per pupil at £561.
  • Delegated expenditure to special schools accounts for 21% of the total budgeted SEN expenditure. Notional allocations within nursery, primary, and secondary schools account for a further 34% of the total. The remaining 45% is made up of money held centrally by LAs.
  • Denbighshire delegates the largest proportion of SEN budgets to schools at 77%, whilst Isle of Anglesey delegates the smallest at 18%.
  • Total SEN expenditure per pupil for Wales is budgeted to be £754. This is made up of delegated expenditure at £415 per pupil and non-delegated expenditure at £339 per pupil.
