When the Vulnerable Children and Child Poverty legislative competence order (LCO) comes into force it will enable the National Assembly for Wales to introduce legislation in the form of Assembly Measures on child poverty. United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child - Reporting arrangements update, December 2007
Article 44 of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) obliges “states to regularly report on the measures they have adopted to give effect to the rights enshrined in the Convention and with the progress they have made with reference to the enjoyment of those rights". Governments are required to report on the implementation of the Convention to the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child at five yearly intervals. This briefing sets out a summary of the activities that have taken place at a Wales and UK level in preparation for this.
Impact of the Queen’s Speech in Wales, November 2007
Through the implementation of the Government of Wales Act 2006 the National Assembly for Wales obtained additional legislative powers from Westminster. However there is still a great deal of legislation being made in Westminster that affects children and young people in Wales. The Queen’s Speech was published on 6 November 2007. It contains a range of bills that will impact on Wales in various different ways. This briefing is intended to highlight the effect that the bills in the Speech will have on children and young people in Wales.
