Injury Interventions

Interventions for the prevention of accidental and unintentional injuries usually fall into five main categories (The 5 Es):

Education - E.g. Safety and risk education for children, changing behaviour, raising awareness with parents, carers, practitioners, service providers and policy makers.
Engineering & Environment - E.g. Home safety equipment, speed bumps, 20mph Home Zones.
Enforcement - E.g. Introduction of mobile phone legislation, speed limits.
Empowerment- E.g. Empowering children, parents and carers to reduce their own risk of a serious accident or empowering a community to participate in, for example Kerbcraft or Home Safety Schemes.

Effective injury prevention interventions generally incorporate at least 2 of the 5 Es.
