Child Accident Prevention

Every year in Wales, over 145,000 children and young people attend Accident & Emergency Departments because of an unintentional injury, equivalent to around 400 children every single day.

Children in Wales aims to reduce this toll and our work addresses accident prevention in all locations, including at home, on the road, around water and at school. We support and work closely with members and practitioners across Wales to reduce the number of children and young people injured through accidents every year.

Children in Wales’ work includes:

  • The development and implementation of the first Child Accident Prevention Strategy for Wales
  • Working alongside the Welsh Assembly Government to promote the prevention of child accidents and unintentional injury
  • The promotion of research on injury prevention
  • The promotion of data collection and injury surveillance
  • Co-ordinating a Wales-wide effective accident prevention network
  • Improving national and local accident prevention work
  • The promotion of evidence based good practice
  • Involving children and young people
  • Providing advice, information, training and resources to practitioners in the field
