Information Day: Disability Benefit Take-Up Campaign for Children
Information Day: Disability Benefit Take-Up Campaign for Children

Location: Pavilion Conference Centre, Llandrindod Wells
Date: 23 Feb 2010
Organiser: Citizen's Advice Cymru
You are invited to attend the above event which aims to share information on services available to Disabled Children and their families from various organisations. In attendance will be the Advisers from the Citizens Advice Bureaux across Wales who are delivering the project.

Please see below further details on the background of the Project for your information, which is funded by the Welsh Assembly Government.

In May 2009, the Social Justice Minister, Dr Brian Gibbons, announced a £500,000 pilot scheme over the next two years to increase the incomes of families with disabled children.   Citizens Advice Cymru was appointed the delivery agent for the scheme, and will deliver a campaign to increase benefit uptake as part of our existing Government of Wales sponsored Better Advice Better Health initiative.

The Scheme is the primary recommendation of the ‘Rights into Action for Disabled Children and Young People Task and Finish Group’ appointed by the Minister for Children, Education, Life Long Learning and Skills in December 2007.

Families with disabled children are more likely to live in poverty because of the higher costs involved in bringing up a child with a disability and the loss of income associated with either being a lone parent or in the case of two parent families the financial consequence of one parent needing to give up work.

Please complete the attached booking form for this networking event and return by 22 January 2010.

Any queries, please contact Andrea Jones, Project Co-ordinator on 01745 586409/email: andrea.jones@citizensadvice.org.uk.
